Now, with the release of SP5 for BW 7.4 (which is part of a service release for NW 7.4) I’m frequently approached and asked to describe the major features. Fig. 1 shows a slide that has come up in that context. There is obviously much more beyond that. But these are the clusters of features that make BW 7.4 shine.
BW 7.3 on HANA focused on enabling HANA as a new DB platform for BW thereby providing excellent performance for dedicated data-intensive operations like queries, DSO data activation, planning etc. Now, BW 7.4 continues with that effort – see item 4 in fig 1. BUT there is a lot more into it, meaning there is also a rich set of new functionality beyond pure performance. Have a look at the items listed in fig. 1. There is also a good and more detailed summary of the recent Teched sessions on BW 7.4 by @RutschmannD.
In Q1 2014, it is planned to provide a BW 7.4 SP5 based trial on AWS as a successor to the existing BW trial image on AWS – see http://tinyurl.com/BWoHTrial. This will allow you to try it out yourself if you don’t have access to a system yet.
Customers who are interested in adopting BW 7.4 SP5 might want to consider the GA care program for SAP NetWeaver BW 7.4 SP5 which is similar to ramp-up program.
